Baldur's Gate

Baldur’s Gate History
Baldur’s Gate is a metropolis and city-state on the Sword Coast on the north bank of the river Chionthar about twenty miles east from its mouth on the Sea of Swords. It is to the south of the great city-state of Waterdeep and to the north of the country of Amn, and is located along the well-travelled Coast Way road. A person from Baldur’s Gate is known as a Baldurian.

This wealthy port metropolis, with over 42,000 inhabitants (although that number almost doubles in the summer months), is an important merchant city on the Sword Coast. Its strong Watch and the presence of the powerful Flaming Fist mercenary company keep the city generally peaceful and safe.

Current Events
Recently the city has been under quarantine, with very few people coming or going (by decree from the Grand Duke Peter, NO ONE without a signet ring or charter can get into the city). The official reason for this is a wasting disease. Because of the quarantine, people with unsavory goods to sell are looking for honest merchants to use as safe passage into the city.
The actual reason for the quarantine is the thieves guild turning a lot of people into drug addicts. They’re selling parasitic worms under the guise of drugs. The worm lodges itself in the brain and causes the bearer pain if they don’t continually take the “drug”. The Dark Stalkers were able to excise a worm from someone’s head. The worm was small, and pink/purple with a lamprey-like mouth. The parasites are capable of mind-control and through that was able to tell us that the parasites are attempting to infect everyone with a mysterious plan in mind.
Based on the information gathered the Dark Stalkers were able to surmise that these parasites are probably a rare type of parasite from the Island of Chult, off of the Sword Coast.
